How to Pamper your Skin During Pregnancy

Women can suffer from various kinds skin issues during pregnancy. These can be eczema, varicose veins, stretch marks, skin rashes and not to forget, the dry and itchy skin that can be quite troubling at times. In sight of these, it is an important thing to make sure that the skin of a pregnant woman is well taken care of. However, most women find it difficult to spare time for themselves during pregnancy due to the lack of energy and the annoying pregnancy symptoms that they experience.

On the face of these issues, here are some easy to follow tips and tricks that can help you care for your skin and keep it healthy and that too without making you feel ‘more’ tired!

  1. Cleanse Up- Cleansing regularly is an important exercise to be followed during pregnancy as cleansing helps in regulating the moisture of the skin. Make sure that you use a mild, glycerin-based cleanser which can even moisturize your skin as you clean it. Also remember that cleansing should not be done more than twice a day to prevent your skin from becoming over-dry.

  2. Moisturizing with Sun-protection: One of the common pregnancy skin issues is the ‘pregnancy mask’ or the discoloration of the facial skin due to increased pigmentation in the skin. To prevent this condition, one must make sure to keep the skin protected with a layer of SPF 15 or 30 containing sunscreen lotion which should also contain moisturizing elements to keep the skin nourished.

  3. Avoid Oils: In case you have oily skin, you could experience teenage making a comeback on your skin in the forms of pimples and acne during the first trimester of your pregnancy. Hence, it is important that you avoid your skin from coming across any kinds of oils and acne-inducing products during this phase of your pregnancy. Also, avoid using products which contain topical retinoids or salicylic acid, which are mostly found in products designed for oily skin, but can be harmful to be used during pregnancy.

  4. Exfoliate Regularly: Your skin needs to be cleaned up regularly during pregnancy as there is a lot that goes on with your body during this time. Hence, make sure that you use some mild exfoliating scrub or prepare one at home itself (to avoid any chemicals) and exfoliate your skin every fortnight or so. This would allow your skin to be clean and would bring a glow on your skin.

  5. Keep it Low on Makeup: This is something you would like; since who has the energy to spend a whole lot of time in front of mirror applying make-up these days! So just apply less amount of make-up during your pregnancy. This would not only prevent your skin pores from being clogged; but would also help you save the effort to first apply and then clean it up. Also, make-up at times can contain ingredients that might not be suitable for you or your growing fetus. You may just stick to the basic stuff: foundation, eyeliner, lipstick and an eye-shadow, if required and that would be ample to make you prepared to participate in an event!
